Our Story.

Wine Stain
Wine Stain

From an Italian Hillside to the Swan Valley.

Where It All Begins.

There are people who choose winemaking and people who are born into it. The team behind Castel León fall firmly into the second category. Mike's first memory of the craft is being lifted by his grandfather into a cane basket on a mule, setting off before dawn for the Italian vineyard at harvest time. He was eight years old. Some things stay with you.

That memory, and everything it carries, is why Castel León exists today. On an elevated block above the Swan River in Herne Hill, Swan Valley, Mike and his partners Otto, Robert and Richard tend their vines the way they were taught to, by hand, with patience, and with the understanding that every bottle they produce is a continuation of something that started long before they did.

Two men examining grapes on a vine

The people behind Castel León are as much a part of the story as the wine itself. Meet the team who make it happen.

Swan Valley roots. Made with heart.

The People Behind the Wine.

Castel León is built on friendship, shared heritage, and a genuine love of the craft. Mike, Otto, Robert and Richard have been doing this together for decades, guided by the same values they were raised with and the belief that wine made from your own land, by your own hands, is always worth doing properly.

From the Vine to Your Table.

Four people, one estate, and a tradition that goes back generations. This is what we do, and we would not have it any other way.
